Stephen Ashfield: Our Burn Valley By-Election Candidate

Stephen Ashfield is standing as our Green Party Candidate in the upcoming Burn Valley by-election in Hartlepool. This is due to take place on the 19th of September 2024. The election is a chance for residents living in Burn Valley ward to vote for the candidate that they would like to become an elected councillor.

It will become their role to work collaboratively with the people living in the area, ensuring their views are represented in the work undertaken by the local council.

Stephen is a dedicated science teacher with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. He says “my educational career is driven by a passion to instil a deep respect for our planet in the next generation”.

As the Chair of a parish council, he has additionally engaged in enhancing community life and protecting vital green spaces. “My dedication to social equity is further demonstrated in my role as a charity trustee, focusing on supporting the most vulnerable in our community”.

“My political experience includes standing for Parliament in Easington for the Green Party, during which I engaged extensively with the media, from local to national and even international levels. This provided me with a platform to advocate for the needs of the local community while gaining valuable insights into the legislative process and how to effectively represent community interests”.

Stephen is committed to enhancing biodiversity and protecting village greens from urban development. “I have spearheaded social initiatives based on community input, aiming to strengthen community ties and enhance our collective identity”.

He adds “if elected to represent Burn Valley, I am prepared to use my experiences and innovative ideas to address local challenges and seize opportunities. My vision for our community includes robust environmental stewardship, fairness, and a vibrant communal spirit“.

The Green Party is gaining momentum throughout the North East where we now have 19 councillors elected.
